The SMW Ka LNB 17.30–22.30 GHz 3–8 Band, manufactured by Swedish Microwave AB, is a high-performance multiband Low Noise Block (LNB) designed for advanced satellite communication systems requiring flexible frequency selection, reliable signal conversion, and excellent phase noise performance. Supporting configurations from 3 to 8 selectable sub-bands, it enables system integrators and satellite network operators to tailor frequency coverage to specific operational requirements. Its low-loss isolator, automatic switching between internal and external frequency references, and compatibility with DVB-S2X profiles make it a versatile solution for demanding professional satellite applications.

Key Features

  • Wide Ka-Band Coverage: Supports configurable sub-bands within the 17.30–22.30 GHz range, with input-frequency configurations available from 17.20 GHz.
  • Flexible Band Switching: Switch between 3 and 8 sub-bands using legacy voltage/tone control or optional RS-485 Modbus RTU monitoring and control.
  • Excellent Phase Noise: Designed to meet DVB-S2X profile requirements for demanding satellite reception applications.
  • High Output Performance: Provides 60 dB typical gain, with a minimum of 55 dB, plus high output compression and intermodulation performance.
  • Automatic Reference Selection: Automatically switches between an external 10 MHz reference and the internal reference.
  • Low-Loss Isolator: Included to support input matching, with a maximum input VSWR of 1.35:1.
  • Optional Monitoring and Control: Supports configurable alarm functions and remote monitoring through an optional M&C interface.
  • Wide Temperature Range: Designed for operation and storage from -40°C to +80°C.

Applications

The SMW Ka LNB is suitable for professional satellite communication systems that require flexible Ka-band reception and configurable frequency conversion. Potential applications include satellite gateways, teleport facilities, high-capacity satellite networks, and specialized ground-segment installations. Its multiband architecture allows the receiver configuration to be adapted to the frequency plan and switching requirements of the intended system.

For installations requiring additional system visibility, the optional monitoring and control interface supports RS-485 Modbus RTU communication. Optional alarm functions can monitor conditions including LNA failure, total current, local oscillator lock status, signal power levels, and low supply voltage.
